Alicja’s Restaurant in Copaigue, NY

Ela and I go food shopping regularly at the Polish Delis in Copiague, NY.  The high point of each trip is having a meal at Alicja’s Restaurant.  Their tagline is “Providing the Best Polish Cuisine on the Island” which I would agree.  There are some good Polish restaurants in GreenPoint, but for the proximity and price, Alicja’s is very, very good.

There are only about 16 regular items on the menu ranging in from $6.50 to $12.00 (Polish Platter).  We have had most of them and haven’t found a bad choice yet.  My usual choice is a breaded pork cutlet that comes with mashed potatoes.  I think almost all the entrees come with mashed potatoes.  Each entrée includes the salad bar which has Polish salads – carrot, beet, cucumber, cabbage, etc. salad.  The soups are excellent and we usually have one as an appetizer even though they are basically meals in themselves.

Of course, no meal would be complete without some Zywiec or another Polish beer.  I can’t have more than one as I believe they are stronger than typical American beers.

The atmosphere is simple, but tastefully decorated.  It has the ambiance of a diner.  There is a bar, but believe that is only used when there are private parties.  Twice this year, we went on the weekend and the restaurant was closed for private first communion parties.

Alicja’s address and telephone is:

1635 Great Neck Road
Copiague, NY 11726
Tel: 631-225-2500

We recommend Alicja’s if you are looking for a very good simple meal at a great price.
