Ela & I went for the first time yesterday to Yin Yang Grand Buffet in Stony Brook. I haven’t been to a Chinese buffet style restaurant since we moved to Long Island – over 5 years. This restaurant was much better than I remember previous similar styled buffets in Westchester.
Typically Chinese buffets put more emphasis on quantity over quality. Yin Yang was no different, but the quality was higher on the value proposition ratio. A big benefit was that it had a sushi bar. The sushi was not the greatest, but it was satisfactory. Sushi and steak are the only two foods that I find myself sometimes craving. My favorite dish was a hot & sour calamari. I had two helpings of it. The breaded shrimp was very good too. All the dishes that I tried were good and I had quite a few.
The ambience left much to be desired. It was similar to store front Chinese take out, but was OK for the value. The waitresses came and cleared our plates regularly so the table didn’t get cluttered and we looked like the pigs that we are. Dinner per person on Friday to Sunday is $15.95 per person and a dollar cheaper on other days.
Yin Yang Grand Buffet is located at 2548 Nesconset Hwy. in between Nichols Road (97) and Stony Brook Road. The telephone number is 631-689-8585.
Ela & I both agreed we would go back again when in the mood for a buffet style restaurant.
