I thought District 9 was an excellent science fiction movie. It was extremely well done and had moral implications.
The plot is about an alien spaceship that lands in Johannesburg, South Africa 20 years ago from present day. The aliens are rescued and moved to a refugee camp outside the city. Now, it has been decided to move the aliens to a more permanent camp 200 kilometers away where separation of the species can be better controlled. Can we say “apartheid?” The message is not too subtle giving the location of the movie. The relocation process does not go as planned and the manager of the relocation process must join forces with the aliens.
The documentary style of the movie gives it a gritty realistic touch. I found the style very similar to Cloverfield, which I also enjoyed. The special effects are very good and not over done to dominate the movie.
I highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys intelligent science fiction movies. Please let me know what you think.
