The Street Lawyer by John GrishamFound another unread book on my bookshelf; The Street Lawyer by John Grisham.  It was another good lawyer focused novel from Mr. Grisham.

The story is about Michael Brock, an antitrust lawyer at a Washington D.C. mega law firm on the fast track to becoming an associate, who has a life changing experience.  A homeless man comes into the law firm and takes Michael along with eight other lawyers hostage.  The gunman is killed by the police and no lawyer is harmed, but Michael is shaken from the experience and does some digging why the man came to their law firm.  He quickly discovers that his firm has violated the rights of the dead homeless man and other homeless people in a real estate deal.

The rest of the book is about Michael’s journey into the world of the homeless and trying to right the wrong done by his mega law firm.  He loses the corporate ambition that he once held and decides to become a street lawyer for the homeless.  The plot is thickened by a stolen file from his old law firm that contains the evidence again it.

Street Lawyer is a good novel that at the same time raises the awareness for the plight of the homeless.  John Grisham is an excellent author who knows how to craft a story.  I believe I have read most of his novels, but still discover ones that I have missed.

I stumbled upon this book just recently. I have always been a Grisham fan. I thought this book was one of the best. It not only told a great story but also hit on very important issues. This should be a riquired reading for all politicians, they need their awareness raised.
