Dead Watch by John Sandford
Dead Watch by John Sandford was an OK mystery thriller. Jacob Winter, ex-Army Intelligence, is called in by the Democratic President to investigate the disappearance of a former republican Senator, Lincoln Bowe. Lincoln Bowe’s wife is accusing the “Watchmen”, a volunteer militia group founded by the democratic governor of Virginia, of kidnapping her husband. The Virginia governor and Lincoln Bowe are political and personal enemies.
When Lincoln Bowe turns up dead; tied to a tree with barbwire, burned and missing his head, Jacob Winter’s investigation takes on a new level of urgency to find the killer and shield the administration from a scandal. During the investigation, Jacob Winter and Lincoln Bowe’s wife become romantically involved complicating the investigation.
Dead Watch was a good read, but it was hard to believe the story and care about the characters. Not sure if I have read anything else by John Sandford. Pretty sure haven’t with the Jacob Winter as the leading character. I am willing to try more of John Sandford’s books as it was well written and did hold my attention.
