I have so far enjoyed all the David Baldacci books I have read and First Family is no exception. It is part of the Sean King and Michelle Maxwell series. The plot centers on the kidnapping of the President’s wife niece. The first lady, who has known Sean King from the past, calls him in to investigate the kidnapping independent of the federal agencies. The story line rotates between Sean King & Michelle Maxwell’s investigation and the kidnapper’s actions/character. There is a subplot involving the murder of Michelle Maxwell’s mother which has nothing to do with the main story line. Baldacci touches on Michelle’s traumatic childhood event, but adds nothing to understanding her character better. Baladacci is a very good writer and I enjoy his books. Saw that True Blood has come out since First Family and look forward to reading it.

Impaired Judgement by David Compton was a solid by the numbers thriller. Didn’t realize until towards the end that I had read it before. Still going thru my bookshelf trying to find books I haven’t read. From Publishers Weekly “Barely halfway through your first hundred days in office and I’m afraid the honeymoon with Congress is over,” Paula Candler informs her husband, Jim, the newly elected president of the U.S. She’s right; the White House couple has plenty of enemies, and within a few pages of Compton’s second political thriller (after Executive Sanction), the Candlers are plunged into a tense plot whose twists and turns include corrupt courts, a mob ring, blackmail and a political scandal or two. The First Lady is also a federal court judge across the state border in Alexandria, Va., but whenever Del Owens, the president’s chief political adviser, pressures her to quit her job on the bench, the feisty feminist refuses. Then an FBI sting operation snatches up mobster Tony Remalli, charged with killing another female judge, and deposits him in Paula’s court. Remalli’s slick, extremely nasty Chicago lawyer, Don Russ, is assisted by a sexy, amoral and very enterprising investigator, Julia Menendez. After Julia starts [...]
